Each of my photographs is a moment – a moment of cows in a row, a moment of sunrise, a moment with elephants before they disappear quietly into the bush. A flower in full bloom. You have to capture the moment, and realise that it may never happen again.
In your life, do you treasure each moment?
I grew up on farms, and have deep respect for the power of nature, and for care of the earth and the soil. I try to live with awareness – recycle my rubbish, have a worm farm on my balcony to dispose of vegetable waste, eat very little meat, switch off the geyser to save electricity, shower instead of bath, and am deeply grateful for every drop of water I use, fully aware of the gift of water.
Raising human consciousness will raise the earth’s energies, as our collective consciousness is raised, so will we live with more awareness, tread lighter, be more respectful.
What do you love? Do you even know? Some of the things that make me happy – forests, mountains, wild seas… cappuchino and deep connection with my friends, reading a book…
Strive for gratitude in your life, for all those small things, and know that you can only be happy when you decide to be happy. There is nothing on earth, no person or possession that can make you content and joyful. It can only happen when you allow it.
And why do we want art in our lives? To remind us of our abundance. As soon as our basic needs of food and shelter are met, we humans start to beautify our living space. So art is a symbol of gratitude and abundance.
